Vaccination Requirement for the Fall
May 25, 2022
Despite the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic for the past two years, Western provided students a home on campus and the chance to make meaningful bonds with peers. Providing a safe environment for our students, staff and faculty is an ongoing commitment and it is a responsibility shared between our community members.
As we prepare for your arrival in September, we continue to follow the guidance of our local health authorities and campus medical experts. All students living in residence will be expected to comply with Western’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, due to the congregate living environment of the student residences. This policy requires all such individuals to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Students who are unable to receive a vaccine and who require an accommodation as the result of a medical condition or other grounds protected by the Ontario Human Rights Code will be accommodated to the point of undue hardship.
Proof of vaccination or accommodation
Prior to moving into residence, students will be required to provide proof of vaccination or proof that they have been granted an accommodation. We will be providing more specific information about the required proof of vaccination or accommodation, who it should be submitted to, as well as its use and storage in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, we encourage you to obtain a copy of your vaccination receipt or record in preparation for your arrival on campus.
Students should expect that as boosters or new vaccines become available or recommended (e.g. an Omicron specific booster or vaccine), they may be required to receive a booster or new vaccine to remain in residence and/or on campus.
For more COVID-19 related information, please check our Residence Contract.
If for any reason you decide to cancel your residence application, please submit your cancellation request to housing@uwo.ca by 11:59 p.m. June 3, 2022. You will then receive a full refund of your $900 prepayment. For any cancellation requests submitted between June 4 and August 2, 2022 (inclusive), you’ll receive a refund of $450 (half of the residence prepayment of $900).
We will continue to consult with the local public health unit and campus health and safety advisors as the pandemic evolves. If there are any changes to residence health and safety protocols including the vaccination policy, it will be communicated to all students via email.
